General Policies

A note from Kelly: “I’m a believer that there shouldn’t be rules just for rules’ sake. All of these policies are in place for the safety and positive experience of our students, their families, and staff. Thank you so much for contributing to a healthy environment for all of us.”

All students and parents will be asked to sign a “Positive Environment” agreement upon registration. This is to ensure the comfort and safety of all families at MHDC.

The lobby is a place for families to wait for their children during class; it is not a play area. We respectfully ask folks to keep this a safe space for everyone. We also politely request that you respect the space by keeping it clean.

Classes will begin and end promptly at their scheduled times. We ask that students arrive on time for class. This will ensure that class is not disrupted by a late arrival, and also will ensure students properly warm up their bodies to avoid injury.

All teachers at MHDC are here to see students grow and thrive. Please respect the teachers and any assistants, as well as other students in class, at all times. If a teacher is offering a correction, please try to correct the action so that the teacher can help you achieve your next goal! If the teacher is correcting a student, the other students should watch, listen, and apply the correction as if it was given to them as well.

Please thank your teacher after class; it’s a great habit to get into to show gratitude for those who are committed to your success.

Please only bring water into the studio; please do not bring food or gum. Thank you!

Dance is a time to be present and intentional; cell phones distract us from being completely present. Please leave cell phones at home or in a dance bag silenced during class.

Dancers should arrive no more than 15 minutes ahead of class, and should be picked up promptly. This allows teachers to be adequately prepared for all classes.

Classes will run with a minimum of 6 students. If a class has low enrollment, we will do our best to accommodate enrolled students into another class. Exceptions will be made in the case that a semi-private rate is charged instead of regular tuition.

Please note that policies can change. We truly appreciate all of your cooperation.

Attendance

Good attendance is encouraged. Please let us know if student is going to be late, absent, or leave early. Excessive absences can result in student falling behind in their lessons, which can lead to lack of confidence.

If a student has a non contagious illness, menstrual cramps, or is injured, we highly recommend the student come to class to observe. So much knowledge can be gained from watching one’s classmates dance.

Beginning in the month of January, teachers start to work on the students’ dance for our annual recital. If a student misses more than one class per month, there will be a discretionary meeting about the student’s participation in the recital. We pride ourselves on a team atmosphere in which all students of similar ability are held to a similar standard, and to hold back the other students who consistently come to class is unfair to them. We will do everything possible to make sure students are all progressing together, even if it’s at different paces. Please reach out to us if you have questions about this policy.
